Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or

Writer: S&PS&P

A special guest today on S&P, Simon's father André joining together with Scott to wrap up the overview of a joint business venture over a glass of an elegant scotch. We'll be reviewing the Glenmorangie 10 in a couple weeks with the rest of the crew, which will cover the review of all Glenmorangie's standard offerings.

In the meantime the gal of the night, Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or, 46% ABV, Bourbon then Sauternes cask, NAS. $125 CAD locally.

We sniff around:

Simon starts us off with a white grape sweetness.

Light sweet nose.

If Scott was go in blind he'd think this was a rye. It's got that sweet and spicy aroma to it.

André goes for a little pepper.

Little honey. Fruity sweetness. Little citrus.

We cheers.

Simon likes the balance here. Sweet, nice spice to it, like baking spice. Little butterscotch.

André says he gets bacon. Scott and Simon aren't sure about the bacon but there is a kind of greasy finish to this, and we like the idea of calling that bacon grease.

André gets a saltiness.

Scott gets a nice tingle.

Simon gets that little sauternes sweetness to it, it was more there on the nose though. Gets more complex as he drinks it.

André's getting a potent honey on the nose now.

Reviews: André starts us off with an 82. It's easy drinking, smooth, honey, some salt, nice finish that stays there gently, it all comes together well. Simon lands on a 75. He also thinks comes together well. He gets that slightly unique sweetness from the Sauternes. Nice balance of highland flavors and aromas, it's got an elegance to it. He likes the most out of the 4 standard Glenmorangies (10, Lasanta, QR). Not really something he's planning to pull the trigger on. Scott goes 73. It's a good scotch. It's a bit simple, he doesn't really get the cask influence, it's all pretty common flavors. He thinks it might be a little gimmicky scotch. Averages out to 76.7.

Overall: This is a nicely balanced and softer more elegant scotch. On the deserty side. Very good to impress amature scotch drinkers, but for those looking for boldness, dynamism, complexity, and different flavors, this isn't the best investment.

Cheers!
